The table below shows the distribution of the 179 fixed-location traditional carillons in North America by state or province. (The two traveling carillons are excluded.) The total for each state or province is also broken down into four general categories of size, as shown in the key at the bottom of the table. At the far right is shown the total number of bells in these instruments.

TOTAL 180 = 20 + 97 + 34 + 29 8202
S/P TOTALS: 41 13 35 17 18
Exclusively: 2 13 1 2
Key:
Large: 5 octaves or more (59-77 bells)
Concert: 4 to 4 1/2 octaves (47-58 bells)
Medium: 3 to 3 1/2 octaves (35-44 bells)
Small: 2 to 2 1/2 octaves (23-32 bells)
In the Total column (the leftmost column of numbers), each number shows how many traditional carillons of any size are in that state or province.
In the size classification columns (the next four columns of numbers), each number shows how many traditional carillons in the state or province for that row are in the size category for that column. A period (.) is used instead of a zero (0) as a place-holder in these columns for better readability.
The figures in the TNr column are the Total Numbers of bells in the carillons of each state.
Below the table, the row labeled "S/P TOTALS" shows how many states or provinces have entries in the columns above. The row labeled "Exclusively" shows how many states or provinces have traditional carillons of ONLY that one size.
For example, there are 40 states/provinces which have traditional carillons; 13 of those have a total of 20 "large carillons" among them, but only two of those 13 have no instruments of other sizes. This implies that there are 11 states/provinces which not only have at least one "large carillon" but also have at least one of some smaller size.
