Summary of bellfounders' contributions
to non-traditional carillons
in the British Isles
The tables on this page summarize the contributions of various bellfounders
to the extant non-traditional carillons in this region.
Those contributions are detailed on the corresponding
index page for this region,
where they are listed in order for each foundry by year of installation.
The first table shows the number of instruments for which each founder made any bells
or replaced the keyboard, according to the nature of the work done.
The second table shows the number of bells installed in the same stages of work.
Explanations and caveats follow the tables.

EXPLANATIONS and CAVEATS:
- The first column of the table identifies each bellfoundry by a short name;
the second column shows the corresponding code letter
used for that bellfoundry in the database.
The full name and location of each bellfoundry can be found
on the index page linked in the first paragraph above,
along with a link to an index of that foundry's work on all types of instruments
listed on this Website.
- The following nine columns each show a particular type of work, as follows:
Cplt - a Complete instrument was installed (and has not been enlarged)
Fndt - an installed instrument laid the Foundation for a later expansion
Intm - an Intermediate extension of an existing instrument
Extd - Extended an existing instrument to its present size
Rcst - Recast or Replaced bells without changing an instrument's range
Tund - Tuned existing bells
Mixd - a Mixed job by multiple founders (very rare)
Kybd - a Keyboard replacement with altered manual/pedal ranges
Unkn - Unknown work (details remain to be discovered)
- The last column presents totals of the numbers on each row, while the last row presents
totals of the numbers in each column.
The number at the bottom right corner
is the grand total of all numbers in the body of the table;
it is also the total of all numbers in the last column,
as well as the total of all numbers in the last row.
- NOTE: Any count of founders' contributions typically exceeds the corresponding
number of instruments, unless all such instruments were the new work of a single founder,
were not subsequently modified, and were not replacements for previous instruments
at the same site.
- This table was built directly from the database, whereas the foundry index for the same area
(linked above) was constructed piecemeal as the individual site data pages were added
to this Website.
Human error in the latter process might produce discrepancies between this table
and the linked index.
Please report any discrepancies noted, using the email link at the bottom of either this page
or that index page.
- Foundries not listed above have not made any known contributions
to the extant non-traditional carillons in this region,
though they may have provided bells for instruments that are now defunct.
That would be cause for a valid discrepancy between this table and the linked index.

EXPLANATIONS and CAVEATS:
All of the explanations and caveats for the first table also apply to the second table,
with the following exceptions:
- Each number in the body of the table is the total count of bells
provided by a particular maker for a particular type of contribution
to various instruments.
- "-" in this table corresponds to a zero in the first table.
- Each number in the last column is the total number of bells installed by a particular maker
in all instruments in this region throughout its recorded history.
- Numbers in the Complete and Foundation columns are believed to be accurate;
numbers in other columns (including the Total column) are likely to be underestimates
because of the way instrument sizes and installation phases are recorded in the database.
