*Remarks:

   Originally a chromatic series above
   an 8-bell ring; bells installed by
   Gillett & Bland, who also provided a
   chiming mechanism to play them; this
   was the first carillon in England.
   Carillon melted down in 1897 by G&J
   to make 4 quarter bells. (Hour strike
   remains on the tenor bell of the ring
   of 8, later expanded to 10; see -2
   under Chimes.)

   Carillon-sized instrument or collection, no longer in existence (defunct), of 36 bells
   Pitch of heaviest bell is E  in the treble octave
   Keyboard range:     E D#  /    NONE  
   Transposition is up two octaves
   There are no missing bass semitones
   The whole instrument was installed in 1867
     with bells made by vanAerschodt
