The table below shows the distribution of the traditional carillons in Central and South America by country. The total for each country is also broken down into four general categories of size, as shown in the key at the bottom of the table.
Country Total Large Concert Medium Small Country ------- ----- ----- ------- ------ ----- -------------- BERMUDA 1 . . . 1 BRAZIL 3 1 1 1 . CUBA 1 . 1 . . EL SALVADOR 1 . . 1 . HONDURAS 1 . . 1 . Large: 5 octaves or more (59-77 bells) Concert: 4 to 4 1/2 octaves (47-58 bells) Medium: 3 to 3 1/2 octaves (35-44 bells) Small: 2 to 2 1/2 octaves (23-32 bells)
In the Total column (the leftmost column of numbers), each number shows how many traditional carillons of any size are in that country.
In the size classification columns (the four rightmost columns of numbers), each number shows how many traditional carillons in the country for that row are in the size category for that column. A period (.) is used instead of a zero (0) as a place-holder in these columns for better readability.
Below the table, the row labeled "Ctry TOTALS" shows how many countries have entries in the columns above. The row labeled "Exclusively" shows how many countries have traditional carillons of ONLY that one size.
For example, there are 10 countries which have traditional carillons; 3 of those have a total of 3 "concert carillons" among them, and two of those 3 have no instruments of other sizes. This implies that there is one country which not only has at least one "concert carillon" but also has at least one of some other size.
Other facts:
Countries with concert size or larger: 3 Countries without concert size & larger: 7 Countries with instruments of all four sizes: (none) Total concert-class: 3 Total sub-concert-class: 9
