*Location: South tower St.Joseph's Cathedral (Old) Franklin and Swan Streets Buffalo, New York, USA *Temporary location (1912?-77): St.Joseph's Cathedral (New) Delaware Avenue at West Utica Street
*Remarks: 45 bells cast by E.& A.Bollée (or Bollée et Fils, Le Mans) in 1866, and exhibited at Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1867. 44 bells delivered. Although the range was 4 octaves, the lowest 2 octaves had many missing semitones. A French-made tower clock and drum played a tune at 00,06,12,18. Structural problems with this tower caused most bells to be removed to storage. Bells were installed in the "New" cathedral after it was built in 1912. In 1915, 43 bells were in the tower, 20 connected to keyboard in 2 2/3 diatonic octaves, C to A; were played before late mass on Sundays and Feastdays. Structural problems here caused removal to storage in 1927. Was reported as 42 bells for years, but most bells were stolen over time. "New" cathedral demolished c.1977; 2 bells remain in "Old" cathedral; 8 are now at Forest Lawn Cemetery. *Technical data: Carillon-sized instrument or collection, no longer in existence (defunct), of 43 bells Pitch of heaviest bell is D# in the middle octave Keyboard range: C A 20/ ---- Transposition is unknown The arrangement of tones and/or semitones is non-standard; see Remarks above.
