City carillon (stadsbeiaard, #1,2,3) *Location: St. Nicolas Church (Sint-Niklaastoren) Bruxelles / Brussel, Brabant, Belgium
*Remarks: De Sany's survey of 1642 showed this to be the largest carillon in the Low Countries at the time (but there is no record of the maker(s)). It was replaced by F.Hemony in 1662; it was destroyed by war in 1695. In 1714, the rebuilt tower received 10 basses by W.Witlockx and 28 trebles by M. de Haze (both of Antwerp); but in July of the same year these were destroyed in the collapse of the tower. *Technical data: Carillon-sized instrument or collection, no longer in existence (defunct), of 41 bells Pitch of heaviest bell is unknown Keyboard range: ---- / ---- Transposition is unknown The arrangement of tones and semitones is unknown. The whole instrument was installed in 1714 with bells made by the makers cited in Remarks above Prior history: In 1662, a complete instrument of 38 bells was installed with bells made by Hemony (0 bells remain from that work.)
